cumhuriyet bayramı

Turkey is seriously patriotic. This was my kids school auditorium on a national holiday - attendance was purely voluntary. Most people wore either red, white or both. I could never imagine this happening for St George. Happy 90th birthday Turkey

Anish Kapoor at SSM

T1 was at a party, so T2 who is into art, Miss P and myself went down to SSM - not the best place to be on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon - perhaps half of Istanbul was down there. The other half walking in the forest judging by the traffic on the way home. So we managed to get a couple of pictures in front of the big yellow - well not sure what the name is, T2 was most intrigued by the black space ones, Miss P by the large marble pieces. Myself by the security who seemed obsessed with my littles and allowed liberal pawing of sculptures by all adults but pounced when T2's flash went off whilst taking a picture of a lump of stone...... I like SSM a lot, the ticket price is a huge factor - 1 adult free per kid, kids free..... don't tell anyone! I liked the work and am intrigued. I will probably go again either with T1 or alone ..... in the week when I can park easily and its not like a shopping mall.

Bloggers Quilt Festival - Market Flashes

I was hunting something or another in the randomness that is my workroom and found this hanging, I had in my mind it was elsewhere - out of the house elsewhere so it was a pleasure to find it.
It is made of 2 fronts, and to be hung over an internal window, the quilting is by hand and wool batting.
I made it way back in 2003 for a challenge that was being held by City Quilter in New York - it was also exhibited in Istanbul, perhaps that year or the year later I was living in Scotland at the time - it is well travelled.
I never hung it in the window it was intended and now have moved. I do plan to hang it now it has re-emerged! The challenge fabric was a kind of Asian market scene. 15.5 by 16 inches.
I have misses a few of the quilt fests - Thank you to Amy once again for this twice yearly Herculean effort. Link to the Quilt festival here.

Bebek to Ortaköy.

missed the sunrise this morning. The walk here along the coast is quite ugly at times. The only upside is the fishermen being less leery.
