Oya

Another Oya edged scarf from my 'collection' this oya is said to be 'antique' though I have no way of checking.... it's neatly made, the colours are less harsh than 'new stuff' - the scarf however is odd, I can't figure if it's an odd quality of polyester or old.

Sticks of oya

I have long wondered the best way to 'display' my oya 'collection' one museum has window picture frames with a standard length displayed. This was a seller in Ortakoy - very neat idea.... it may get stolen....

Oya

I got this piece a while ago, I realise it's not really 'oya' but was sold as such.... it's a kind of looped crotchetting/tatting using thick clear monfilament as a base. Very interesting, stiff, and unlike many of the scarves I own it's a long 'shawl' that is decorated at both ends.

Oya

This is one of my prize oyas, made as a gift for me, by a lady from Kahramanmaraş totally unexpectedly - the maker didn't know of my oya passion, these are huge, though the flowers will not stay open they have stamens, along with small decoration along the edges - I don't know if this 'monster' oya is of that region as I've never seen this scale before. I noticed that sadly one of the oyas is missing from a corner. This scarf is just so beautiful - I get it out and admire it often.

Oya

Due to a distinct lack of blog-able items today another oya picture - a mystery flower. We discovered No3 likes water fights - which made T1 and T2's epic water fight/lets help mommy water the garden session this evening quite hilarious, whilst being surprised by the sudden water 'hit' it just reduced her into fits of giggles or crazy running and jumping.... neat! mommy wasn't so happy at being drenched though.... that water is COLD...

Oya - Chile Pepper

Oya is deeply siginificant and different flowers have different meanings, chili peppers signify problems with the in-laws. I had great trouble finding a chili pepper - in the end I got this lone chili made as a sample, the maker was reluctant to make more. I did find some antique chilies in a beautiful antique textile store in the spice bazarr but they were just way too expensive.

Oya

More oya, since there is nothing else to show that I can lay my hands on - a day spent doing chores, tidying up and taking down the tree, 2 more episodes of MIT and a late night. I need to unpack my machine after it's Christmas holiday and vacation to the repair shop - tomorrow maybe - then again we have no big peoples' washing powder - a trip to the BIG supermarket is on the cards.

Oya - Daisy

Due to a creeping case of the blahs and the dreich weather, there has been no creativity here - so another oya picture, these are daises, they have a leaf under and a small amount of fishing line in them to hold the circular pattern stable. they are 2cm across and made in 2 sections, the leaves and the flower - the flower is one piece. Baby is, at last, picking up.

Oya - carnations

Today is the anniversary of Ataturk's death - so some red and white flowers... These are oya, a type of needle lace - made around Turkey and the Balkan area. It's very intricate - it's not done with a crochet hook but a sewing needle or fine shuttle. I have a small selection of different flowers - some I know others are a mystery - plus a book detailing how to make different flowers. These are carnations.
