Electric Substations

These lovelies are on the edge of a new development. The basıc structure ıs poured concrete and very different from the recent pictures. Thıs substation also hums - not sure what that means. There are a few others painted ın this style. Their location makes it hard to stop - but I will!

Electric Substations

This one is in Sariyer, on the watefront. I am now recognising a distinct Sariyer style. There is perspex over the 'windows' of this one - neat?

Electric Substations

This beauty is between Maslak and Atatürk Oto Sanayi Sitesi. I'm starting to recognise a style with these, it will be interesting as I go in search of others in different districts to see if there is a city wide style or local to each area.

Electric Substations

This beuty is in Tarabya, near Cent School - on a corner, so great access, the first I've seen with garffiti - this is becoming an interesting excercise, this one is painted by Sariyer council. I keep spotting them - there are some great ones to come, I just need to stop the car in a safe place as they are on busy streets....

Electric Substations

I love the ceramic wire things coming out of this one. The shutters and window frames are great too. This one is taken from Carfour carpark, it is on a busy main road, opposite the American Consulate in Istinye.

Electric Substations

This is going to be an interesting set of pictures. I've increasingly noticed that Turkish substations are HUGE, like houses, and accordingly they have a department of house painters (I'm not sure if this is true - one of my Turkish readers please let me know!) There are some great lengths gone to to paint these, shingles, grilles, porches, and bricks are all added to the basic structure, they look quite good - in a strange sort of way. So this is the first one, in Tarabya. More to come - a lot more..... It will be interesting to see if they change as I go to different areas.
